Uhh...Hey. How's it goin'? For those you starting to worry, don't. I'm still here and alive, in one form or another. I would have blogged before now, but I had neither interesting content nor the energy to form complete, cohesive sentences.
So what happened? At work, a bunch of transitions occurred at the exact same time: The large (100-Mac) desktop lease came up, requiring us to move people over to the new computers. But, it's not just a simple move. Nope. Every computer that Apple sells doesn't boot OS 9 anymore. Only X. We knew this was coming, but there wasn't anything we could do about it. Regardless of whether our software was up to date or if our users were ready for it, we were transitioning to ten. Oh, and one last thing, management decided that now would be a good time to transition over to a new server platform for our main file server for the Macs. So, to summarize: we have new desktop hardware, s new OS that users are unfamiliar with (and that still has many bugs), and a new server that they connect to and work from. Sound scary? Think nightmare. People think I'm joking when I say that I haven't gotten a good night's sleep in a while. There were just too many variables and too many chances for things to go wrong. Obviously, things haven't gone smoothly. In fact, the last month or so has been the worst time here at Martin so far.
Outside of work, I've been to exhausted to really care about much else. Late hours and working straight through the last two weekends have prevented me from having much free time to relax. I'm sure Olivia thinks I've lost it, and I'm totally out of touch with what's going on with my friends. CustomTacos? What's that?
But the good news is that all of the machines are installed, all 900 gigabytes of data is moved over to the new server and people are using it, and things seem to be calming down just a bit. Luckily, Glen is going to let me take a few days off right after Thanksgiving to give me a mental break.
