Wow, so I guess we're right in Isabella's path. I've gone back and forth on how serious I think this is going to be. At first, I didn't think it was that big of a deal. Then I heard stories from when previous hurricanes ripped through the eastern seaboard. It probably didn't help that the media jumped in to try to warn (read: scare) the public. Then, I switched back to not thinking it was anything serious. And, now I'm wondering if maybe this is gonna be a big deal.
We just had a department meeting here at work. It looks like we'll be covering many computers with bags later today and instructing all laptop users to take their computers home with them. Somehow I still think this is over-reacting just a bit, but I guess we're just being prepared for the worst. Steve (our dept. head) said it's likely that we won't be working a full day tomorrow, if at all. We're supposed to use common sense when we wake up tomorrow in deciding if we should come to work.
I'm really not sure what to think. This is the first hurricane I've ever been near, so it's hard to know what to expect.

You ever seen Junk Yard Wars? Im going to see if I can throw together a truck/boat in 10 hours or less. Im thinking a big party deck, lounge chiars, grill, and beer. I'm just going to float around for a few days and maybe do some Carp fishing. Good thing your parents live in a hill. If they get bord they can come fishing with me.

Don't you remember the flood of 1985 when we had to spend the night at "flood headquarters?" I think that was due to a hurricane that came through here.
Also, the year you were a freshman at RU (1996), we had a hurricane come thru the Valley. Your truck was parked beside the garage in the grass, and we got a call from the neighbor that your truck cover had blown off. Dad had to go running out to retreive it from the neighbor's yard in really bad wind. We had a terrible time getting your truck back on the driveway, too, after all the rain. It had sunk in the grass.

Poo. Wish they would let us nurses use "common sense" to decide whether we needed to come in to the hospital...unfortunately we don't get a choice! :(

I've been thru a few. Back in 19 hundred & 72 we had one come thru called Agnus. I was in Fredericksburg with my Grandparents. I was 9, they closed I-95 @ Woodbridge to inspect the bridge pellers because the storm caused the Rt.1 bridge to fall, which was not a 1/4 mile away on the same river. Agnus was the 3 most expensive storm in history, that was in '72. There are only 2 worst, Hugo & Andrew. So it is better to take precautions, I live on a mountain. I have the generator ready w/an extra can of gas, the dually has been move down into town away from the trees here, all the vehicles have full tank. We're on a well so we have the tubs full of water to flush the toilets so we are ready. I have bottled water, batt. etc. I look at it this way, I can drink the water later, use the extra gas in the lawn mover & will be driving place as it will not go to waste. Wait till those 60 mph start hitting that vinyl siding or the roof shingles.

Well, Short Pump has power and the Short Pump Town Center is open. Unfortunately, water is still a problem and the California Pizza Kitchen is closed. The Apple Store didn't bother to open either, so the first monthly XMUG dinner has to be cancelled. Sigh.
We still don't have power so www.xmug.org and the mailing lists are down. I might have to get a generator.
