Wireless, Wireless Everywhere!

I finally received my new D-Link wireless router yesterday when I got to work. It's funny how it took exactly a week for a package to travel from Charlottesville to Richmond. I think Office Depot screwed up and forgot to ship my order. The router was only $15 after SlickDeals rebates and such. Not a bad deal for a 4 port wireless router that has tons of cool features. I got home last night and spent a good hour or so configuring it to integrate with my existing Apple Airport Base Station. I set the SSID of the new station to the exact name of my existing station, thereby creating one large, seamless network that you can roam between. This solves my problem of not getting a good strong wireless signal to the front two bedrooms upstairs. It also solves the weird problems that my old 1 port Linksys had been giving us for a while. Not sure what I'll do with the old router. Maybe some website has some neat hacks you can do with it or something. Anyone need a 1 port - 1 port router?

I discovered something interesting while testing out my new wireless network: there are lots of people with WiFi in our neighborhood. I launched my trusty wireless sniffer, Mac Stumbler, and headed out into the front yard. It immediately detected 3 or 4 other networks that I didn't know were there. Two had encryption on, the other two didn't. I'll definitely be exploring those networks sometime soon..probably tonight. Poor, unsuspecting neighbors.

My sinus cold isn't getting too much better. It has moved on into my nose more now, causing lots of sneezing and snottyness. Just what you wanted to know, right? :)

Man Jeff, my wife had something like this for over a week. She went to the Doc and have gave her a list of stuff she needs to mix up and squirt up her nose. Part of it is Canning Salt, distilled water, krow syrup, and 1 or 2 other things. Sounds good don't it. She has to do it twice a day. Some doctor at UVA came up with it. We'll see if is works.

That sounds really gross. How can you get karo syrup in your nose, it's so thick. Ugh.

Mmmm..... Karo syrup.....

Sniffing saline will give you the same effect..

Jeff- Is that ALL that's involved with expanding a network over two wireless ports? Just making the SSID the same???

Yes. It always helps to have the WEP settings the same, too. Oh, and make sure they're NOT using the same channel or they'll interfere with each other.

Maybe this will help. Boy... This is one boring day at work. Give me something else to look for.
