June 10, 2003eBay Sucks LatelyWhat is it with me and eBay lately? I've been having some bad luck with eBay transactions, and it's really starting to make me doubt using it anymore. In the past 2 months, I've had 2 deadbeat bidders. Yep, two people who came on eBay, placed a bid (or more than one bid in one case) on an item that I was selling, and then never returned ANY of my communication after the auction ended. It's really not that hard to send an email and at least say "Hey, I'm really not interested in the item". Not that this would be acceptable. I think some people don't really take eBay seriously. I left a message on some person's answering machine yesterday letting them know that if they didn't contact me soon that I would be notifying the eBay authorities. That has worked in the past. That seems to have lost its effectiveness, too. The problem is: eBay is the world's marketplace. If you want to sell something (anything!), eBay is the place to do it. Perhaps eBay needs to somehow increase their punishments when someone doesn't honor their bids. Posted by Jeff at June 10, 2003 02:24 PMComments
Death by wedgies to all who abuse the wonder that is Ebay! Posted by: Chris R. at June 10, 2003 03:08 PMHey there's an idea!! Posted by: Olivia at June 10, 2003 03:35 PMHow about their feedback levels, Jeff? Might want to make sure you include a disclaimer about not having to continue dealing with post-auction deadbeats based on low or negative feedback. Just a thought. People just don't take responsibility for their actions anymore. It shouldn't have to be up to eBay to keep everyone in line. :( Posted by: Brian at June 10, 2003 05:02 PMI've never used e Bay. It kind of scares me. And, I'm afraid I'll get addicted. Posted by: Lolo at June 10, 2003 05:44 PMSend them a virus! Posted by: D at June 10, 2003 07:35 PMLauren, I guarantee you would. We showed Traci how to use it back in college. That was four years ago. She's still on there, buying something new almost on a weekly basis. :) Keep away.....keep away.... before you know it, you'll have billions of feedback points and the eBay tshirt or something crazy like that. Posted by: Chris R. at June 11, 2003 09:37 AMI had a horrible experience with a so-called "power seller". I made an immediate $220 payment for an item 6 months ago. The seller claimed the item as "stolen" by the shipping agent. Since then, I have been in a virtual battle to get money back from this guy. He disappears for weeks on end without any communication and gives excuse after excuse why he can't currently refund the money. (He admitted to having the insurance check at least 3 months ago.) Personally, because of this and another sub-par experience, I will NEVER be doing any business - selling or buying - on eBay again. Posted by: Lisa at August 16, 2004 10:21 AMSellers beware - Ebay only cares about one thing - money. If something doesn't make them some cold hard cash you can forget about it. if you plan to sell on Ebay forget about having an easy time. Ebay is swamped with time wasters these days and if a bidder doesn't pay for an item, ebay's opinion is tough s**t - pay us. For any of those who have evr tried to get a refund forget about it. You have to wait 3 days to send a payment reminder, 7 days to file a report, 14 days to file a claim but no more than 60 days to get your money back. Does this sound like the behaviour of a company who's willing to give a refund. Ebay is one of the only companies that I can think of that doesn't publish a single telephone number. THEY DON'T WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU so don't waste your time. You can email them and around 50% of your emails will receive a resonse - always signed customer service and always from an address you can't reply to. Have a look round boot sales and charity shops if there's something you want and save a fortune on Paypal fees and postage. Posted by: Ebay-sucks ass at August 31, 2004 06:00 PMHere are two prime candidates (IMO) for the absolute best alternatives to PayPal and Ebay: WWW.UNICLEAR.COM WWW.ENDEBAY.COM Oh yah! I almost forgot to tell you all about the best part about www.ENDEBAY.com. This auction website shares 25% of all monthly profits with members! So if the site makes $10,000.00 in profit one month they give $2,500.00 back to it's members! Again, let's see Ebay auctions do that! I hope to be one of the very first members to get a chunk of this new auction websites profit share as there will surely be more and more members trying to get a peice of the cash as the site grows. Really a genius concept (IMO). Take care everyone. Remember to love eachother and be nice to eachother. Posted by: Paul at November 13, 2004 04:19 AMHave you heard about onlineauction.com? It is a new site that is designed to give ebay a run for their money. You can buy, sell and list as many items as you like for just 8.00 per month. There are no final value fees and no hidden fees. Posted by: grady at December 13, 2004 05:06 PMHello, has anyone heard about onlineauction.com? It is a new site that is designed to give ebay a run for their money. You can list, buy and sell as many items as you like for just 8.00 per month. There are no final value fees and no hidden fees. Posted by: Grady at December 13, 2004 05:28 PMEbay sucks because they purposely cheat the (buyer) bidders on a routine base, here’s how. When you do decide to bid on an item you will have to select the bid now button, when you do place a bid it often tells you that your bid is currently the highest bid but the reserve has not been met. Well, if this is a real auction then why does Ebay even accept bids that have not met the reserve? One of the reasons is. #1. Ebay hires outside representatives (you have seen the Spam ads in your E-mails “make extra money at home”) I call these people House of Ebay, they are all over the world, one of the duties of the representatives are to call/email so called losing bidders and try to sell the same item again so they (Ebay) can make more money off of you. A dead give away is an ad with something like “Over 675+ Bowflex’s Sold! BUY SAFE Bonded Seller!” You might even be bidding on a Private Auction, this where (again according to Ebay) ”This is a private auction. Your identity will not be disclosed to anyone except the seller. If you are already bidding on this item, view your bidder status”. Humm…. So is this why I get E-mails from other sellers…as Ebay continues, “When a seller chooses to make an auction private, the User IDs of bidders is not displayed on the listing. The seller is able to view the User ID of only the high bidder during the listing, and only the winning bidder when the listing ends. In a Buy It Now listing, Private Auction hides the identity of the buyer from everyone except the seller”…. Interesting, so what if House of Ebay is the seller? Another thing that Ebay states about the bidding process is “Shill bidding: Shill bidding is the deliberate use of secondary registrations, aliases, family members, friends, or associates to artificially drive up the bid price of an item. (This is also known as "bid padding.") Shill bidding is strictly forbidden on Ebay. Ebay members found shill bidding may receive warnings or indefinite suspensions of their accounts.” Unless you’re House of Ebay. And Ebay never enforces it either. One last scam that House of Ebay is proud of, if you ever have seen an item advertised as something to the effect: Item location: God Bless America! Or Ships to: United States. Be very careful of these ads they are from out of the country and you’ll never get you money back, if you are bidding on an item that is not within 500 miles or are not worth the driving over to view it in person, then you shouldn’t be considering purchasing the item, unless you want to just risk losing the money. And last but not least, if you see this Shipping costs: US $160.00 - UPS Ground (within United States) do not fall for this, the seller or House of Ebay adds a profit to the shipping too. So check if not with UPS then another shipping company for a quote, you just might be amazed at the difference. After many years as a seller on ebay I am done with their insanity. Bid for free, sell for free and we even give up to $5.00 cashback rebates to buyers and up to $225.00 cashback rebates to sellers. Go to our site for the details. www.smartsauctions.com Posted by: Smarts Auctions at February 7, 2005 02:22 AMSome of the sellers there DESERVE to get ripped off by Ebay! After all, when you sell merchandise at double or triple the price of online retailers, you are really ripping off the bidder who might not know enough to shop around at legit online stores for a better price. So to all the sellers who engage in this practice (and believe me I've found the vast majority doing it) I say it's great that Ebay is raising prices and ripping YOU off for a change! It's all about karma!
