Since this was such a memorable day in history, this is what I did today:
On a more serious note, it really was a pretty moving day. To all those people who complain that they're tired of watching the 9/11 coverage, discussions, and speculation: Maybe you should think about all of the people who never saw the live coverage the first time...you know, the people who will NEVER see the coverage. The people who will never know that THEY are part of history forever.
Posted by Jeff at September 11, 2002 11:52 PMI consider myself tired of the 9/11 coverage.
But I don't think I'm among the "complainers." People can do with today what they'd like to do, but since you brought this up, Jeff, I was hoping I could offer a perspective that might be a bit different:
Yes. I'm tired of the coverage... only to the extent that it has been driven home again and again. The imagery of that day a year ago will never leave my mind, so I have no need to see the planes continually ramming the building on TV.
I never knew anyone in those buildings so my grief is on a general level, but it is grief nonetheless. People grieve in different ways. Some may choose to grieve by recalling memories of last year in front of their families, televisions, or memorial walls. Others may prefer a "moment of silence" sort of remembrance. I prefer self-reflection on a daily basis. I don't need the TV to remind me that innocent people have died, and that terrorism should have no place in my life. Having last year's loss driven into my skull by special "remembrance" chocolate cake (I'm not kidding..my office did this today) really isn't something I want to jump up and celebrate about. I feel that the best way to honor those lost is to live my own life to the fullest, and respect/support those who fight for my freedom to do just that.
That's my two cents, since I don't plan on blogging about this on my stupid website. But thanks Jeff, for giving me a chance to share. You know I'm not about stirring the sh*t, especially on someone else's website, but I wanted to get this off my chest, and I think that you and your audience are a lot more forgiving than the ones on my stupid website. So thanks everyone for letting me vent. Have a great Thursday.
Oh and Jeff? If you tip your head back a bit, you can drool and no one will know. hehe :)
Posted by: Brian Korte at September 12, 2002 01:29 AMA little cat-nap there, Jeff? ;-)
Posted by: Jennifer at September 12, 2002 12:12 PMI refused to turn on the television last night. They weren't showing anything I hadn't seen before. A terrorist attack a year ago today? Wow - didn't know that. Even MTV, for cryin' out loud! I couldn't even watch Sorority Life or VMA reruns last night, heh heh..... Oh well.
Posted by: Top at September 12, 2002 01:04 PMHey Brian, maybe if you finally accomplished something on your to-do list (like maybe moving to Richmond??) you'd feel a little of that self-fulfillment and you wouldn't be so negative about the world and your website.
Posted by: Someone who reads your "stupid website" at September 12, 2002 07:41 PMHey Jeff, didn't we catch you doing something similar to that in your first webcam? (You denied it but now I don't know.....) :)
