September 26, 2001Smash MouffToday. Ya know what? Forget today. Let's talk about tonight. Another boring night at home, right? No way. Eric Hurd (a buddy from Radford days) called me this afternoon and offeredme tickets to see Smash Mouth play in concert tonight. Seeing as I really dig Smash Mouth and their totally original musical style, I agreed to take them off his hands. Eric even picked them up and hand-delivered them to my apartment. Was this my lucky day or what? I must say a HUGE public thank you to Eric for calling me and offering us the tickets. Olivia and I got to Innsbrook (a very cool techno-business park area in the suburbs of Richmond) just before Smash Mouth hit the stage. And just as they were taking the stage, I glanced over at a lighted sign that read: "Q94 presents: Smash Mouth..with BT" BT? BT?! BT!!!??? ARRRGHHH!!! For those of you scratching your head right now, BT is Brian Transeau, one of my absolute favorite techno-trance-dance artists. At this point, I almost flipped my right leg up and kicked my own ass. Smash Mouth absolutely rocked the..uhh..grass and trees and stuff. No, but they were really great. They played their single set to be released next week and also played a few songs off of their yet-to-be-released album (due in November). Very cool stuff. It was so neat to finally hear (and see) them in concert after listening to their CDs. Most of all, it was cool to hear the lead singer's voice..it actually sounds exactly the way it sounds on their CDs. I took a couple of photos, but you can't really see much, except a big blob:
After the concert, Olivia and I went and filled her tank..for $1.19 a gallon. Now, to make this even more interesting, I found a humorous sign hanging on the gas pumps: Now, don't be scared. I'm ok. I did have my cell phone on while I was pumping gas, but I somehow came away unscathed. Next time, I'll be sure I turn off my phone before I pump gas. I now know exactly how dangerous that can be. :) Posted by Jeff at September 26, 2001 11:49 PMComments
Glad you liked the show! Posted by: Eric at September 27, 2001 09:01 AMYou missed BT????!!!!!! AAAAAAaaaaaaa!!!!! Dude, that sucks!!!!! That would have been awesome. See? Procrastination is a bitch. I'll bet it went lke this: Olivia: We should get going if we want to make it in time. Jeff: Well...we've got some time. Let's have dinner first. Olivia: But we might miss the opening act Jeff: It's probably some hillbilly junkyard jug band anyhow, plus I just want to relax for a while. Oliva: grrr. Jeff: Let's get some taco bell before the show. Olivia: I'll go get my keys. How close was I? :) Either way, that was cool that you got to go to the show. Was it an outdoor thing, or pseudo inside like Def Leppard was at the Richmond fair? Oh, and my friend knows a guy who is dating this girl who has a roommate, who's grandmother had a cell phone on at the gas station while pumping gas. Her face melted, and now her arms are where her legs should be. True story. I think. Posted by: Brian :) at September 27, 2001 10:46 AMActually, you're wrong. It was EXACTLY the opposite! Olivia was taking a nap. I woke her up with dynomite and kept rushing her to get us going. The truth be known: Olivia didn't even enjoy it that much. She wasn't half as excited about going as I was. Next time, maybe I'll just go and let her nap. :) Posted by: Jeff at September 27, 2001 11:07 AMYou're wrong actually. I was asleep when the tickets were delivered, so I had no idea what time it was, or when we should be leaving. Jeff didn't care about seeing the opening band (as we had no idea who it was). We did have to eat dinner as I had no eaten all day, but no, we did not go to Taco Bell, we had leftover pizza :) Oh, and it was outside, in a semi-field. Posted by: Olivia at September 27, 2001 11:10 AMDoh! And I did enjoy it!! GRRRR Posted by: Olivia at September 27, 2001 11:11 AMLOL. sorry I mentioned it! :) Posted by: B at September 28, 2001 12:24 AMPost a comment
