Thursday morning Olivia and I woke up bright and early (sorta) to leave for Radford. But first we had to clean up the house a bit, drop off some recycling, drop Gizmo at the boarding place, and then finally head out.
All of that ended up taking us a little bit longer than we expected, so we left a little late (imagine that). It's a good thing we packed up the truck the night before.
Speaking of the truck...If I hadn't mentioned it yesterday, it was REALLY loaded down. It's a shame I don't have a tonneau cover yet, because it would have been great to use for this. We ended up putting out suitcase in two plastic bags and putting it in the bed. Howverm, as luck would have it, we didn't run through any rain on the way to Radford.
We got into Radford, and dropped off our decorations for the reception. After that, we stopped by NRV Rent-All to make the final preparations for the chairs for the ceremony. Finally, we met up with Olivia's parents and brother for dinner at Spinnaker's.
Today pretty much sucked. I woke up early to I could stop by Wal-Mart and pick up some contact lenses. After waiting 15 minutes for the pharmacy to open, they directed me over to the optical area of the store. There, I waited for another 15 minutes for the optical shop to open. Once the worker finally decided he wanted to help me, he informed me that they didn't carry my size of contact lenses. What a waste of time. I thought Wal-mart carried everything.
Work was busy as I figured it would be. On one hand, I'm really glad I won't be there the rest of the week. But on the other hand, I feel bad because I know how busy and hectic it will be for my coworkers.
Olivia and I leave tomorrow for Radford. We spent a good portion of tonight packing the truck. Man, we sure are taking a lot of stuff! The entire back seat is full all the way to the headliner, and we'll be stuffing plastic sealed boxes with stuff to put in the bed. I feel almost like we're moving!
Oh, and I stopped in tonight and picked up my tux/suit. It was amazing how I could go from being casually dressed for work to looking all spiffy in just a few short minutes. I'm looking forward (for once) to being all dressed up and looking like a million bucks.
This morning started off bright and early at 7:00am. Olivia and I woke up early so that we could go to the Henrico County Government Office and get our marriage license.
It was a busy day at the ole' courthouse, filled with plenty of scary-looking people. And thugs. And submissive cops and dominatrix-esc judges.
So, 15 minutes and $32.50 later, we had our marriage license. Not too difficult. Almost too easy, even. Except for getting the full body cavity search at the front doors. Seriously, don't even try to go in there with either a cell phone or a pocket knife. They'll kick you to the curb.
The rest of the day was pretty uneventful. I think everyone and their brother at Martin knows I'm getting married now. I get a lot of "Only 4 days left!" as I walk past people in the halls. It's neat that everyone seems to care so much. however, only 1 person from Martin is attending the event, and he doesn't even work in ITS.
The weather situation in southwest VA hasn't improved much. They're still calling for high's in the mid to upper 50's and a 30% chance of rain. Yuk.
Today was, in a word, productive.
Being off from work couldn't have come at a better time. I started the day at 10am with a full list of people to email and call among other things.
I had been planning on calling the Sheraton Maui for a while now, but always found it difficult to find time to call. I was able to talk a reservation representative into upgrading our room from two double beds to a single king bed. Nice. And, it didn't cost us anything, so it worked out perfect.
After cleaning up some things around the house, I finally got around to washing my truck. After all, it will be our vehicle of choice this weekend and may even get photographed, so it better be clean.
I also took some time to relax and watch the recently re-re-released Episode IV from the Star Wars trilogy. It's amazing the things I picked up on when watching it today that I hadn't before. Little detail things that make it fit perfectly with Episodes I and II. I can't wait for Episode III this spring.
So, it's back to work tomorrow. I don't think we're installing any phones tomorrow, but that will start back up on Wednesday. This is going to be a quick week.
By the way, my weather obsession continues... Weather.com is now reporting that Saturday will be in the high 50s with a 30% chance of "Few Showers". What the heck is "Few Showers"? Can I request that they happen in the late evening maybe?
Ok, so it's been a really long time since I wrote in on here (again).
With only 6 days left until the big day, I thought it would be a cool idea to try to write in on here every day from now until Saturday, if for no other reason to have a record of what happened in the week leading up to the wedding.
On Friday my coworkers in ITS threw me a surprise wedding party. It had been a REALLY REALLY hectic week of installing new Cisco IP Phones, probably the busiest week I've ever experienced at the Agency. Around 12:30, Cindy called me on me on my cellphone and asked that I come to the Client Suite to help a client get online. I thought it sounded a little weird, but it had been a strange day, so I headed over to the conference room. I opened the door to find all of my coworkers standing around yelling the obligatory "Surprise!!". I was shocked. They had gotten me. I scanned around the room and noticed a familiar face. It was Olivia! Somehow they convinced her to come downtown to throw me a surprise lunch. They had fixed hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill along with plenty of sides and deserts. The lunch was topped off with a couple of gifts and a visit from CEO John Adams.
We spent this weekend continuing to put the finishing touches on some things. I think our biggest accomplishment was getting the ceremony programs designed, printed, and assembled. We ended up coming up with what we think is a really cool design that is really cool looking and very functional. I've never been to a wedding ceremony that had programs designed quite like this.
I'm so proud that we've taken it upon ourselves to design and create almost all of the decorations and paper items (save the date cards, invitations, and programs) ourselves. It's surely saved us a bunch of money and made the whole event that much more personalized. Even with as much work as it's been, I don't think I would have done it any other way.
I've also officially begun the weather obsession. Yes, I now check the weather for Radford, VA at least twice a day. And believe me, it changes at least that often every day. As of now, Weather.com is saying that Saturday will have scattered showers with a 30% chance of rain. Temperatures in the low 60s. Hopefully it'll continue to improve before the end of the week.
Luckily for me, I've got tomorrow off from work. Hopefully Olivia and I can come up with some things I can get accomplished with my extra time.
