January 17, 2003The anti-climactic snow stormOH MY GOD! WE'RE GONNA GET PUMMELED BY SNOW! 3-5 INCHES! 4-8 INCHES! 6-12 INCHES! What a crock. It started snowing around 8pm and was done by around midnight. We MIGHT have gotten 4 inches of snow. Although, as I was driving to work this morning, I could see the dead, brown grass peeking above the fallen snow, so we couldn't have had that much snow. But, what's so funny is that just about all of the local schools closed for the day. The roads are CLEAR! Amazing. So, here I am: arriving to work on a 2-hour delay. Driving to work was entertaining. I saw numerous cars sitting in the ditch, pointed the wrong way. Traffic on 95 north was sitting still all the way through downtown..and there wasn't a reason for it. I saw where the traffic started to slow down and there wasn't any accident, just two tractor-trailors moving very slowly side-by-side. It's like when people see snow around here, some kind of chemical reaction takes place in their brains. "Quick! Close the schools! Engage stupid driving mode! Fire aft torpedos!" Ok, maybe not the torpedo thing. Posted by Jeff at January 17, 2003 10:53 AMComments
Yea. Everyone knows that you only fire forward thrusters when it snows. Posted by: Brian :) at January 17, 2003 11:15 AMGET THE BREAD, MILK and TOILET PAPER! AAaaahh!!! Everyone! Into the basement! Posted by: Top at January 17, 2003 12:36 PMYa. I made the mistake of putting off grocery shopping until Thurs. night. We actually had nothing left. Ironically we did not need milk. Thank GOD for the self checkouts at the Rockville Food Lion! Posted by: Eric at January 18, 2003 09:54 AMIt's like I told ya before...go to Vermont and live for a few winters if you want to learn how to really drive in SNOW! ;-) Snow is a way of life up there....here it's more like a major EVENT. Posted by: Jennifer at January 20, 2003 02:27 AMYou can't imagine the craziness around here when it snows. And yes, it has snowed a few times in the last three years since I've been here. Shoot, people can't drive in the rain out here either! The locals think Armageddon is coming... ...and I prefer using the "ARGO" when the elements get too severe. If you've seen Star Trek: Nemesis you know what I mean. Posted by: Brian Reinertsen- Tucson, Arizona at January 20, 2003 05:27 AMPost a comment
